South African auction site
A new South African auction site saw the light a while ago. I responded to an advert I saw, and created an account with them. I had some difficulty with my account a few weeks ago upon signing up, but the glitch seems to have been removed.
It's free!
This is obviously the best part of the site. You get to sell your goods for free. There are upgrade options available at very reasonable costs (R20 for a home page feature), which makes it even more appealing.
Their buttons are large
Have you ever sat a semi-internet-illiterate person down by your computer to study them while they surf the web? I have. It gives great insight into how such people use the internet. Big buttons are a must. People hate getting lost, and big buttons reduce their chances of doing so. Hippobay seems user-friendly enough for any semi-internet-illiterate to be able to use, which is great! They even have a 'New user help' section for total noobs.
Chatroom, forum and blog included
Hippobay even offers a chatroom and forum (with an FAQ section) for you to mingle with other auctionees (I don't think that word really exists). Another great way to get exposure. As if that's not enough, users are also offered a blog, where you can post anything. No really, anything. See for yourself.
ID verification
Getting verified to sell on the site is quite a mission. You have to download a form, fill it in, add a copy of your ID, and email, fax or snail-mail it back to them. This is not a bad thing. They say it's to curb fraud, and I think it's a good idea, since fraud in our country seems to have become a school subject.
Check it out
Check out hippobay. It's a fast loading site, and it seems to gain in popularity quite quickly. Nice job over all!
